Mix your own fluid replacement
Fluid replacement is a special salt and sugar solution. It is the best that adults and children can drink to restore fluid balance in case of diarrhea, vomiting and heavy sweating in, for example, high physical activity or hot climate and in case of fluid loss. If you lose a lot of fluid, it is good to drink fluid replacement. The fluid is best absorbed by drinking a little and often. Fluid replacement is quickly absorbed by the body and effectively restores the salt and fluid balance, which in turn accelerates recovery.
You need :
- 1 liter of water
- 6 teaspoons powdered sugar or grape sugar (1 teaspoon = 5 ml)
- ½ teaspoon of salt (not herbal salt or similar) (½ teaspoon = 2.5 milliliters)
Do this:
Mix all ingredients, use measurements to get exactly the right amount. If you want to flavor the liquid substitute, you can add two teaspoons of concentrated juice or fruit juice. It is good to boil the water first and mix in salt and sugar when it has cooled. You just have to guess the salty taste, it should taste like tears.
NOTE! For children under one year , it is safer to give fluid replacement from a pharmacy, to avoid the risk of high salt intake in the event of incorrect dosing.
Ice cream with liquid replacement
Children can have difficulty getting fluid replacement as they do not like the taste. A trick is then to make their own ice cream that contains just liquid replacement. Do several at once, freeze and pick out if necessary!
Normal fluid requirements in adults
A healthy person has a fluid requirement of approximately 30 ml / kg body weight per day.
